“The goal of this command is love, out of a pure heart and a good conscience and sincere faith.”
1 Timothy 1:5, WEB
What is all of this for? The rules, the lessons, the sermons, the hard conversations. Paul answers in one sentence.
A letter to a young leader
Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, a young pastor in Ephesus. Some teachers in the church were arguing about details and losing sight of what mattered. Paul reminds Timothy what the whole point is.
Love is the target
The word Paul uses for "goal" means the mark you aim at, the end point. Everything God teaches is aimed at one thing: love. Not winning arguments. Not looking religious. Not knowing the most. Love.
Where real love comes from
Paul names three sources:
- A pure heart: loving without hidden motives.
- A good conscience: living in a way that matches what you believe.
- Sincere faith: trust in God that's real, not a performance.
Love that grows from these isn't fake or forced. It's what happens when God changes a person from the inside.
What it means for you
When you're not sure how to respond to someone, whether it's a friend who hurt you, a stranger online or a family member you disagree with, ask one question: what does love look like here? That's the target. Everything else is a detail.
Why we made Target: Love
We wanted a design that keeps the main thing the main thing. Every time you put it on, it asks the same question: what am I aiming for today?
Every design carries a verse.
